May 24The pUKEs - LONDON - Dublin Castle
With CASE and the B-MOVIE BRITZ as well…
Everyone’s favourite nearly all girl punk rock ukulele band The pUKEs are throwing a party to celebrate the release of their debut 7” EP on the seminal Damaged Goods label. Since they formed in an East London boozer two years ago, the pUKEs have found themselves in demand, touring with Bad Manners, appearing at festivals and performing at the Tate ModernPlaying right after the pUKEs will be their good friends and label mates CASE. The first incarnation of CASE was formed in 1979, in the suburbs of Croydon and Bromley. The band became known, not just for the mass of graffiti bearing their name, that appeared all over London at the time but also as the best live punk/post-punk/ska/rock band of the early 1980’s era. CASE released just one piece of vinyl in their time together – the highly-rated and highly-collectable ‘Wheat from the Chaff’ EP – which reached the top of the independent charts. With the advent of the internet, MP3s and YouTube, the last three years has !
seen a huge burst of renewed interest in CASE – hence the assembly (from demo tapes and various other, previously-unreleased, recordings by the band) of ‘Aint Gonna Dance’, released by Damaged Goods last year B-Movie Britz- taking influences from bands such as The Damned, New York Dolls and Cock Sparrer right through to Misfits and Wednesday 13, mixing elements of Punk, Horror Punk and Oi! Since forming over 5 years ago the Britz have released 2 EP’s, have gigged around the UK and have supported punk legends such as Anti-Nowhere League, UK Subs, Vice Squad, Goldblade, The Cute Lepers (US) The Rabble (new zealand), Strawberry Blondes, and many more.
