SINGING LOINS - NEW ALBUM COMING IN JULY

The Singing Loins are back with their tenth album, ‘UNRAVELLING ENGLAND’ proving that genius is nothing more than gritted teeth and enduring patience. It features 12 brand new songs recorded as demos over a period of 18 months on a mate’s cheap digital machine. It was soon apparent that the energy and imperfection they’d captured should be released as it stood. We think it’s their best yet and we’re also taking a (ahem…digital) single from the album which will be a 4 track affair with ‘Please Take My Scissors Away’ and ‘Everywhere’ from the new album plus a couple of older tracks. Release date is 20th July and it’s catalogue number is DAMGOOD337CD...

Holly Golightly re-issues

Available from Monday onwards we have 3 great Holly Golightly albums for you. All 3 were originally released on Sympathy For The Record Industry and have been unavailable for some time. Head over to our online shop to order your copies. Painted On CD/LP This is a reissue of Holly Golightly’s third proper album which was originally released in 1997 on the Sympathy label in the USA, now finally available on digipak CD and 12” LP vinyl. ‘Painted On’ is one of Holly’s favourite albums and it features some of her regular live favourites including ‘A Length Of Pipe’ and ‘I Let My Daddy Do That’ which she now plays along with Lawyer Dave in her current incarnation as Holly Golightly & The Brokeoffs. Up The Empire CD/LP This is a reissue of Holly Golightly’s first ever live album which was originally released in 1998 on the Sympathy For The Record Industry label in the USA, now finally available on Digipak CD and 12” LP vinyl once again. ‘Up The Empire’ was Holly’s first live albums and it features thirteen tracks that was apparently recorded in the summer of 1997 at Bridgetown’s premier nightspot, The Empire Ballroom and features some of her regular live favourites she’s still playing today including ‘Won’t Go Out’ and ‘You Ain’t No Big Thing Baby’. Down Gina’s At 3 CD/2LP ‘Come on in, put your cigarettes out and have a dance’ kicks off this reissue of Holly Golightly’s second live album which was originally released in 2004 on CD only on the Sympathy For The Record Industry label in the USA, now finally available on a double 12” LP vinyl for the first time and dusted down for a Digipak CD. ‘Down Gina’s At 3’ was recorded at the start of their US tour in 2004 and released by the end of it! This is pretty much the line-up which recorded Holly’s classic ‘Truly She Is None Other’ album and features are Bruce Brand on Drums, Eric Stein on lead Guitar and Jack Lawrence on Bass. Ko And The Knockouts appear on the encore tracks. Apparently just after the tape had run out there was a final encore and Jack White got up and did a stunning version of Louie Louie with the band. never mind eh!...

Roxy Epoxy & The Rebound - New Album and Single!

We’re very pleased to be realeasing this debut album by Roxy Epoxy And The Rebound. Entitled “Band Aids On Bullet Holes”, it’s out this week on CD, LP and download. Often associated with such fierce and striking artists as Karen O, Siouxsie Sioux, and Chrissie Hynde, Roxy Epoxy made a lasting impact on the punk and indie community in her former band, The Epoxies. Now, freshly rejuvenated and ready to tackle the music industry with both fists and a great set of pipes, Roxy embarks on the next chapter of her musical career with her newly-minted band Roxy Epoxy And The Rebound. “I think The Rebound are a bit more introspective than The Epoxies,” explains Roxy. “The music is more intricate and is a bit more rock than pop. When the Epoxies broke up, I had a ton of material at different states of completion and finally had the time to dig into it. I had wanted to head in a slightly different direction for a while. This is the result.” This result is a dynamic album of punkified New Wave and synth-infused rock that stomps when it should skip and gallops when it should sway. The herky-jerky pop Banshee-esque goodness of “New Way” hearkens the early anarchic days of the London Underground, while the thrusting and velvet-texture of “I Know I Know” adds atmosphere and drenches it with drama. The melodic infectiousness of “Dependence Leads Your Fortune” is a propulsive and explosive stunner with meandering keyboards and swirling guitars, punctuated with Roxy’s extremely distinctive vocals. “I think I am most proud of ‘Dependence Leads Your Fortune’,” she says. “I just feel it’s the strongest song I’ve written so far… I’ve only been writing and performing music since late 2000,”. Formed in 2000 in Portland, OR, Roxy’s former band The Epoxies burst on the scene with a handful of 7″ singles and albums on influential Pacific Northwest labels such as Dirtnap and Fat Wreck Chords before releasing their final EP My New World on Metropolis. Feeling the need to feed her hunger to create even more music, Roxy Epoxy began writing after the band’s break-up. The resulting album Band-Aids on Bullet Holes isn’t a solo record as it is the genesis of her next band. “I’m still using the name Roxy Epoxy, sure, but this wouldn’t have progressed this far without the people I’ve had the pleasure of working with,” she explains. “It started out as a solo project as Drat [guitarist and co-writer of the album] and I wrote in his living room. It was based on many songs I had written during The Epoxies. But, when you add more people, the whole thing broadens. I like to have outside input.” There’s also a single “New Way” taken from the album featuring an exclusive B-side “Parasite”. Available as a white vinyl 7″ and download, it’s released on 27th April but is available for pre-order now....

Travis Criscola - R.I.P.

We’re saddened to hear about the death of Travis Criscola, guitarist in the Cute Lepers for the last six months, this is from Steve and is up on their myspace page. Our condolences to all who knew him Travis Criscola, rest in peace Early the morning of March 28, in Cincinnati our friend and band-mate Travis Criscola passed away in his sleep. He was 24. Travis was guitarist in the Cute Lepers for the last six months and was the perfect addition to the band as it’s developed. He was our friend. His company was always a pleasure. I don’t think I ever heard him say a negative word about any one. He was smart, polite and considerate, always interested in learning more about music and playing guitar… he really loved music. He was passionate about music in a way that only other like minded musicians recognize and relate with. When Travis joined the band he would not think twice about jumping on the bus from Olympia and making the two hour ride to Seattle for a spur of the moment rehearsal, and then riding the bus two more hours to get back home. In fact Travis was doing this three times a week up until we left for europe to start our tour. His character and his commitment made him the very best we could hope for in a band-mate and a friend. We’re gonna really miss him. We feel that it’s appropriate and absolutely not in bad taste to disclose the cause of death of our friend. Travis combined alcohol and pills, then went to sleep and never woke up. It was an accident. Travis was not any kind of a habitual drug user. I’m a man who has left drugs and alcohol alone for over a decade and I just wont work with people who are mixed up with narcotics. It is rare to find a rock n’ roll musician in his early twenties who doesn’t get caught up in hitting the bars and going to parties on tour, and Trav was just one of those ones who made a really bad decision. He naively took some type of pills on top of the beer he was drinking and that’s it. I believe that it would be a disservice for us to leave out this information. People would wind up hearing distorted versions of the truth anyways. Also our hope is that other young musicians, or anyone it may apply to who reads this will learn from our tragedy and perhaps wise up a bit. We’re currently traveling across the country back home to Seattle with heavy hearts. Trav’s family and his beautiful longtime girlfriend are in our prayers. –Steve...

I really like interacting with people during performance. I’m always up for someone jumping up and doing some singing or dancing with us.”...
